Guji is a sub-city of Sidama in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) of Ethiopia in southern Ethiopia. The Guji zone is known for its wild growth of the heirloom coffee trees and the incredibly fertile soils lead to a truly unique coffee.

Sidama coffees in general are known for intense sweetness and clarity of flavor. They’re complex and layered, with very recognizable attributes that gleam Ethiopia. They tend to hit all the high points particularly when it comes to sweetness, brightness, and flavor complexity.

This particular lot of Guji has been specially prepared to reduce defects which significantly improves the cup quality. This preparation required a much greater level of detail in the dry milling process to identify and rid defects. Well worth the effort, this coffee is classified as Grade 1 which is the highest designation of coffee quality in Ethiopia. This coffee blew us away on the cupping table with its sweet citrus, floral, and wonderful spice notes. Every year is a challenge to come up with unique coffees in Ethiopia, partly due to the Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) system in place. But what is great about Ethiopia, and this coffee is a perfect example, when you do find that good one, it is a good one!
